Evaluation
For this project we were asked to create two models for a futuristic vehicle - they were not allowed to have wheels. We had to research in to various vehicles and techniques to achieve the design. We had to do design development for each design, to show the process and the try out the techniques we have learnt to produce to final out come.
I made a craft/balloon/blimp combination. I wanted to use various aspects of a design to make one complete design - because this way, it would make it more interesting and unique. For the other one, I went for a ship, hang glider design - I did this for a more traditional, versus futuristic design which I had planned out through my research. I wanted to communicate a vechicle which would work - but was something completely new which used a whole range of aspects to create one set model - such as, take different things from different areas.
I experimented with designs by looking in to various animals/insects/sea life and thinking of ways to combine them with a vehicle. I made pages of drawn designs of transistions from one thing, to the other gradually. I also tried designning a whole set of vehicles from my mind in quick sketch's to get out whatever came to mind. Some of the idea's I rejected, specifically from the transistions thing - because simply put, some of the animals didn't work.
What I wanted to communicate with my audience is a ship that works well, and is creative both traditionally and futuristicly. I feel I did achieve this through having parts of the vehicles more ordinary, and others using more techniques.
I feel I could have managed my time better, mainly with the end models so that I would have them finished sooner. And also, get all the paper work out of the way first, rather than working on both at the same time. I feel my strengths in completing this project were my designs and how varied the idea's were and how I tried to experiement in many different areas.
If I had more time, I would of liked to add smaller detail - such as windows and doors to the ship - or headlights and animations to the crafts. I'd also like to work on the texture more to give it a more realistic appearance.
In future, I feel I will work on my time mangement and get everything done in the appropriate timing rather than everything getting messed up. I'd also like to do more tutorials, so I understand the work better and can get on with it more easier.

Experiments (Lightwave Research.)
I researched in to plants because I thought adding them as decoration or towards the shape would make it more interesting. I love the idea of using mushrooms as roofs or the long stems as supports for a vehicle. I also love the colours and tones of these, and how they have these intricate patterns which would feature well on a vehicle and give it a more interesting, dynamic and different appearance.
It'd be nice to experiment with different types of vehicles, all nature inspired. It would allow for works on shapes and structure, rather than using the same ones we have now. It would also let me combine more things together to make an end peice.
The whale reminds me of a big ship, and because one of my design is based around a ship, I thought to research in to larger animals - one of these was the whale. I feel this is big and wide as a ship, with a lot of detail that if added to the vehicle would make it look interesting and unique. I mostly love the bigness of the whale, and how it has this huge body which you could mould and shape in to something else entirely - but still save parts of it to show it resembles a whale.
I also like the idea of a vehicle being underwater, such as a submarine, or something on water - such as a ship.
Another part of a craft I have an idea for is to use the body of a shark. You can see how it has this intricate tail which whips out at the end - and would be an interesting aspect to use for a craft - for instance, this part would be good to use as Jets. The face is very hard and thick, and would make good for a front passage with a huge window or cock pit. The Shark is already shaped roughly like a craft, even it's fins resemble wings, so it would be interesting how I could show this through with the design.
I also like the water colours with the shark. I feel these tones suit a craft well - silvers, greys and blues - because their very stereo-type futuristic.
I find the Octopus really interesting because it has such different aspects too it's body which not many other creatures - most specifically it's tentacles. It has this very interesting, rounded head part which blends in well with these long leg like tentables. It almost looks like some kind of highway or roads.
What drew me too it's design is the idea of using various shapes and structures, which would make for a more interesting design. I also like the colouring, the flat, soft tones which all blend in well together with the rest of the animal.
For my craft, I'm using a similar shape to a fly. I'm taking reference from this because I want it to be small, and round and have the appearance of something small and delicate. A fly also has sections, which could be counted as the jets and the front of the ship - so already theres the basis of a ship. I also like the idea of the wings and how they span out, which could be used in my design - however, I do want the craft to appear more vehicle than insect. Other insects I looked in too were Wasps, Bee's and Butterflies because they all have a similar design.
I really like the idea of combining a bird with a vehicle, because it has so many functions which would benefit transportation - such as flight. I like the idea of combining an animal with a vehicle, so it gets qualities from both. For instance, I could use the wings from the bird for the wings on a craft - so their move bird like. I could take the colour and the texture of the fur. I could make the front of the vehicle, look like the beak and head to create a more interesting and versatile appearance.

For my research, I chose to look in to various vehicles. This would help me come up with a design that was realistic and hold a lot of original, and unique aspects.
A hover ship with a very interesting design. I love the idea of the various shapes and sizes, so it creates something unique. I really like how the front part is long, with all these triangles coming off it to carry on the design and add things further to make it appear more futuristic. The back end also has small decorations which grab your attention and make you realise this isn't something that has been created in this time era. I also really like the colouring, the silver and blue really work well together on these types of vehicles, because they give it a metallic, slick appearance which blends well with the idea of the design.
With my design, I'd like to have well thought out functionalities which would not only improve the original design, but also would work out too.

Lightwave process 2
This model was created by getting influence from a fly for the craft - and the prospect of having a futuristic craft and hot air balloon as one unique design.

Lightwave process 1
Eventually, I settled on a design which was based partly on a boat and a hang glider - and a small craft influenced by the design of a Fly.
For my first design, I decided to go with the part boat, part hang glider. I began by making the base of the boat, since this would be the main structure of the design. I did this by first creating a box, and molding it in to the shape I wanted to achieve - I did this by selecting the ends of the ship, clicking the right polygons and moving each sides to make the curves. To create the move defined curves - specifically the bottom aspects - I selected the points on the polygons, then clicked on them seperately, to move them individually to mold them in to shape. I also used "smooth shift," and "move," to add more decoration and depth to the sides of the ship.
To create the ropes to connect the hang glider and the ship, I firstly created a disk - streached to a cylinder so it was similar to a long tree trunk. I then duplicated this, so I had two of the same thing on the same layer. Then I created a circle, used the slice tool to create the rings and smoothed them out so they were more circular. Taking the cylinder again, I duplicated it to add it too the bottom. Once that was complete, I added small decoration by creating a circle, squashing it together with the sizing tool, and placing them on the sides - from here, I altered the sides until everything fit together and looked correct.
Placing the suspender to the ship, I duplicated as shown in the above image - so that I now had two. I then placed them on either side of the ship and rotated them until they connected at the top ends.
For the glider, I got a cone shape and selected specific polygons - these were the bottom parts of the structure - then I deleted them so now it had a flat surface at one end and a pointed part at the other. I then selected certain polygons on the roof and using the extrude tool, pulled them out slightly so the top had dents and ridges in it to give it more depth.
I then rotated the glider and placed it on top of the ship so it connected with the two ropes I had created earlier.
