I researched in to plants because I thought adding them as decoration or towards the shape would make it more interesting. I love the idea of using mushrooms as roofs or the long stems as supports for a vehicle. I also love the colours and tones of these, and how they have these intricate patterns which would feature well on a vehicle and give it a more interesting, dynamic and different appearance.
It'd be nice to experiment with different types of vehicles, all nature inspired. It would allow for works on shapes and structure, rather than using the same ones we have now. It would also let me combine more things together to make an end peice.
The whale reminds me of a big ship, and because one of my design is based around a ship, I thought to research in to larger animals - one of these was the whale. I feel this is big and wide as a ship, with a lot of detail that if added to the vehicle would make it look interesting and unique. I mostly love the bigness of the whale, and how it has this huge body which you could mould and shape in to something else entirely - but still save parts of it to show it resembles a whale.
I also like the idea of a vehicle being underwater, such as a submarine, or something on water - such as a ship.
Another part of a craft I have an idea for is to use the body of a shark. You can see how it has this intricate tail which whips out at the end - and would be an interesting aspect to use for a craft - for instance, this part would be good to use as Jets. The face is very hard and thick, and would make good for a front passage with a huge window or cock pit. The Shark is already shaped roughly like a craft, even it's fins resemble wings, so it would be interesting how I could show this through with the design.
I also like the water colours with the shark. I feel these tones suit a craft well - silvers, greys and blues - because their very stereo-type futuristic.
I find the Octopus really interesting because it has such different aspects too it's body which not many other creatures - most specifically it's tentacles. It has this very interesting, rounded head part which blends in well with these long leg like tentables. It almost looks like some kind of highway or roads.
What drew me too it's design is the idea of using various shapes and structures, which would make for a more interesting design. I also like the colouring, the flat, soft tones which all blend in well together with the rest of the animal.
For my craft, I'm using a similar shape to a fly. I'm taking reference from this because I want it to be small, and round and have the appearance of something small and delicate. A fly also has sections, which could be counted as the jets and the front of the ship - so already theres the basis of a ship. I also like the idea of the wings and how they span out, which could be used in my design - however, I do want the craft to appear more vehicle than insect. Other insects I looked in too were Wasps, Bee's and Butterflies because they all have a similar design.
I really like the idea of combining a bird with a vehicle, because it has so many functions which would benefit transportation - such as flight. I like the idea of combining an animal with a vehicle, so it gets qualities from both. For instance, I could use the wings from the bird for the wings on a craft - so their move bird like. I could take the colour and the texture of the fur. I could make the front of the vehicle, look like the beak and head to create a more interesting and versatile appearance.
